San Francisco Bay view? Check. 35 minute commute to San Francisco. Check.  307 acre park with running and biking trails? Check. Real estate under a mil? Check.

In a region where finding a place to buy a home near San Francisco seems out of reach for the “under a million dollar buyer” Point Richmond is an up and coming opportunity to consider. With a view of the San Francisco skyline, miles of bike trails and a new ferry terminal that makes a commute to San Francisco only 35 minutes from dock to dock, it may be a town whose time has come. And best part? You can own a home there for a fraction of what people are paying to live in nearby Marin, Berkeley AND San Francisco.

Point Richmond, also sometimes referred to locally as The Point, is a little-known, charming enclave at the far western tip of Richmond.  Many of the buildings in the cute downtown are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s a short walk or drive through a tunnel at the edge of downtown to reach Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline (http://www.ebparks.org/parks/miller_knox), a 307-acre waterfront park with hiking and biking trails and picnic areas.  There’s also a secluded beach, a fishing pier and a hilltop with spectacular views of Mt. Tamalpais, the cityscape across the bay and the Oakland Hills.

Apart from the views and city parks, the new Richmond/San Francisco ferry service, which began in January 10th of this year, is making Point Richmond a true opportunity. The service offers four runs from Richmond to San Francisco during morning commute hours and four runs from San Francisco to Richmond in the evening commute hours, shaving off over an hour of sitting in traffic with a pier to pier time of only 35 minutes. Work aboard the ferry with free Wifi or enjoy the views on the bay. Weekend ferry service gets you right into watching the Giants games or bring your bike and San Francisco is your oyster. Developers are seeing the value of building new housing to include condos and townhomes in Point Richmond thanks to the new Ferry connection to SF. Plans of new housing are also spurring new business ventures to the area and giving existing businesses a boost of incentive to expand as “business matures”.  https://richmondstandard.com/richmond/2019/02/06/barrels-of-fun-richmond-has-a-new-wine-bar/

To keep gentrification in check, Richmond City Planners are working with residents and developers to ensure the focus is on keeping a vibrant art community along with the new residential development so everyone can enjoy this exciting time in creating a city of the future.
