Thanksgiving is upon us here in one of the best places to live in the US. What are you thankful for?

Perhaps your health and family, but think of all the wonderful reasons to be thankful just because you have chosen to live in the East Bay! (and if you are not here, yet, take notes!)

5 Reasons To Be Thankful

  1. The weather. Touted as one of the most mild climates IN THE WORLD, the East Bay enjoys one of the lowest swings of temperature extremes than anywhere else. You may take this for granted, but while you may be wearing a scarf this week, people all over the US are already in snow boots and digging in for another five months of cold ahead. You? You get to go for a hike on a nearby trail with your family and friends or still enjoy your vegan meal sitting outside at a cafe.
  2. The perfect mix of urban living and natural beauty. Every resident in the East Bay, no matter if they live in a hilltop mansion or an apartment is minutes away from endless city amusements AND can be on a beach in an hour.  Residents can always discover something new in the East Bay by wandering and exploring the diverse neighborhoods in Berkeley, Oakland, Kensington, Albany, Richmond and more. AND you can go camping or find yourself alone in the wilderness within 30 minutes.
  3. The diversity.  From the variety of people of many cultures to the neighborhoods, restaurants, architecture and entertainment, the East Bay celebrates its diversity. Beyond the rainbow of diversity is also an underlying feeling of acceptance of being unique! Acceptance is part of our fabric and you can find the ways it is celebrated in life all around us.
  4. Focus on healthy eating. When people think of Berkeley, they think of the California cuisine movement started in the ‘80’s by Alice Waters. But they also think of the hundreds of restaurants that pride themselves on sourcing locally from farmers in the region. You can’t go very far to find eclectic chefs preparing food that is celebrated for its locality AND the light way it is prepared to share the natural tastes of each ingredient. Gluten free, vegan, paleo, sustainable- all spoken here. Even local wineries tout the fact that the wines are sulfite free and fermented in a way to be as healthy as possible. Beyond professional chefs, each resident has the ability to go to farmer’s markets each week and pick a variety of healthy, locally grown produce and specialty items for their own foodie enjoyment!
  5. Education and Healthcare. When anyone comes to live in an area they think about what opportunities are available for children to learn and have access to great teachers, vibrant possibilities for learning outside the classroom and other parents who also support the education of their children. The East Bay has some of the most highly educated people in the country! The schools are innovative, enriching and provide opportunities for children to get advanced education without having to leave the region. Conversely, as we age, accessibility to great health care is also important. The East Bay has access to some of the best medical care in the world! Medical professionals love living here as much as we do and so we have a deep pool of specialists that can take care of us nearby. So, from cradle to our sunset years, we are in fantastic hands!

Berkeley Hills Realty wishes all of you a very happy Thanksgiving! We count ourselves among the fortunate to call the East Bay home and helping people join us in this amazing lifestyle that keeps us all healthy and happy.
