Romney O’Connell earned her real estate license and joined Berkeley Hills Realty as a natural outgrowth from her career in the arts and her long interest in architecture. Romney has a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University, where she studied painting, sculpture and architecture. She received a Fulbright fellowship to study painting in Assisi in 1990.
Romney’s lifelong interest in architecture has led her into the renovation of older homes, with special attention to period detail. She is a member of the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, where she often researches the histories of particular homes and neighborhoods, fascinated by the richness of character and sense of place that a home acquires over time.
Romney lives in Berkeley with her husband and three children. The O’Connells received the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association’s Preservation Award (2007) for the remodel of their home, both inside and out.

We chose Romney O'Connell of Berkeley Hills Realty after interviewing six other real-estate agents. She was the only person who could appreciate how truly unique our home was. She really understands Architecture! She helped us sell our family home in the Berkeley hills even though the sale was anything but conventional. She guided us calmly through the difficult sales process and was always certain to represent our interests at all times. She was very helpful when we had some problems with the Berkeley Rent Board and she made sure that we had all the proper documents filed and completed when needed. She helped us through a complex sales negotiation, even though we were both far away, in different cities. She made sure that we were aware of every step in the sales process. I can highly recommend Romney O'Connell to anyone who wants to sell, (or buy) a home in the Berkeley Hills. She is a consummate professional.
Romney O'Connell is a top-of-the-line, veteran Realtor with deep knowledge of the Berkeley real estate market and the home buying process. She is incredibly helpful, caring, and patient in the boom market that is the East Bay. You will be treated like family working with her. My best friend partnered with her to both buy and sell his condo in Berkeley in 2008 and 2013, respectively. I have worked with her on and off for the past couple of years and this past July 2013 I closed on my first home in Berkeley with her expert guidance. Romney is effective at crafting the right offer and negotiation strategy (if necessary). She will always ensure you are fully aware and comfortable with the next step in the process - whether relating to the house itself or the financing. She also knows the homes in Berkeley very well - both structurally and aesthetically...buying a house built in 1905 on a brick foundation (like I did)? No problem! She has the experience to educate you so that you can make the best decision for you. I have, and will continue to, recommend Romney to all my friends looking to buy in and around Berkeley.
